About the 2025 Conference
The 2025 National Research Conference for the Prevention of Firearm-Related Harms was held on November 19 -21, 2025, in Tempe, AZ. The conference highlighted the current state of science and research on firearm injury prevention across the lifespan, and featured a Keynote Speech by Sean Joe, PhD, MSW, Benjamin E. Youngdahl Professor of Social Development and the Founding & Principal Director of the Racing and Opportunity Lab at Washington University in St. Louis School of Social Work. During the conference's closing ceremony, Dr. Pizarro announced the launch of the Society's Conference Searchable Abstract Database, which will house all presentation abstracts from this and past conferences. The database is currently under construction, and will be announced upon its completion.
This year’s Society leadership team included its President, Dr. Jesenia Pizarro, Secretary, Therese Richmond, Treasurer, Dr. Daniel Semenza, and Founding & Past President Dr. Sonali Rajan. The event was organized by the Research Society for the Prevention of Firearm-Related Harms, Arizona University’s Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions, and Columbia Scientific Union for the Reduction of Gun Violence (SURGE).
